COMPLEXO VIÁRIO JACU PÊSSEGO

Important system in the east side of São Paulo, the Complexo Viário Jacu Pêssego is a set of express and semi express roads that extend over 26 kilometers. The avenue starts in the cloverleaf of the Ayrton Senna Highway, in the border of the municipalities of São Paulo and Guarulhos, and goes towards the Southern Section of the Mario Covas Beltway, with access through the duplication of Avenida Papa João XXIII, in the municipality of Mauá.

The extension works of Avenida Jacu Pêssego Norte (Jacu Pêssego North Avenue), covering a length of 2.1 kilometers between Avenida Frei Fidelis Mota (in the end of Rua Doutor Assis de Ribeiro) and the Ayrton Senna Highway (kilometer #23.5) were delivered in June, 2008. The project was essential for the development of the area, which includes the neighborhoods of São Miguel, Itaquera, São Mateus, and Guaianazes and the municipalities of Ferraz de Vasconcelos, Guarulhos and Mauá, a highly populated area that lacks an efficient roadway system and gathers highly heterogeneous properties, in addition to commercial and industrial centers.

The extension works of Avenida Jacu Pêssego Sul (Jacu Pêssego South Avenue), between the municipalities of Mauá and São Paulo, cover a length of 13.6 kilometers - 6.7 of which in São Paulo and 6.9 in Mauá -, and were opened in October, 2010. The project comprised the implementation of a main line starting in the Avenida Papa João XXIII (in Mauá) and ending in the cloverleaf with the Avenida Ragueb Chohfi (neighborhood of São Mateus, in the east side of São Paulo).

The project connects and facilitates the transport of passengers and freight between the traffic corridor of the Southern Section of the Mario Covas Beltway (in the municipality of Mauá), the Avenida Jacu Pêssego and the Ayrton Senna and Dutra Highways (municipality of Guarulhos), representing an important driver for the development of the east side of São Paulo by connecting industrial complexes, such as Itaquera, with the municipalities of Mauá and Guarulhos.

The lighting project of the main line and the construction of access loops to the special engineering structures were delivered together with the extension works.

Details about the works:

  • Construction of three marginal roads (length: 4.87 kilometers).
  • The COHAB marginal road between Avenida Sapopemba and the Cohab overpass (in both directions).
  • The marginal road #10 between the cloverleaf of Avenida Ragueb Chohfi and Estrada da Servidão (São Rafael overpass).
  • The marginal road #9 between the access loop to the Pedro de Medeiros overpass and Avenida Sapopemba.
  • Cloverleaf loops in Avenida Ragueb Chohfi.
  • Cycle way parallel to the marginal road #10.
  • Channeling of part of the Caguaçu stream and its tributary (between Cohab overpass and Avenida Sapopemba).
